Common questions about cPanel licensing and management

A cPanel license is a subscription that grants you access to the WHM/cPanel control panel software. It provides a user-friendly interface for managing web hosting, email, DNS, security, and server settings—essential for streamlined server administration.

cPanel offers Solo (single account), VPS (up to 30 accounts), Dedicated (up to 100+ accounts), and Cloud/Clustered licenses. Each tier differs by the number of hosted accounts, feature set, and server environment compatibility.

You can buy directly from the cPanel store or through an authorized reseller. Select the license type, choose a billing cycle (monthly or yearly), complete payment, and you’ll receive a license key tied to your server’s IP address.

Log into WHM as root, navigate to “Server Configuration → Server Information,” and click “Change License” to enter your license key. Alternatively, cPanel auto-fetches and applies the license based on your server’s public IP.

Yes. In your cPanel store account, reset or revoke the existing license, then install cPanel on the new server and activate it with the same key. Transfers may take a few minutes to propagate.

If expired, WHM/cPanel features become read-only and new accounts cannot be created. You’ll receive renewal reminders via email—renew through the cPanel store or reseller portal to restore full functionality immediately.
